Part I – Into the Breach

Sessions – Part I

Part I – “Into the Breach” is an apostolic exhortation and accompanying video series by the Knights of Columbus that calls Catholic men to step up and heroically live their faith in a world facing a crisis of belief. Inspired by Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted’s letter, it identifies the challenges men face in living out authentic Catholic masculinity and provides a “battle plan” for them to combat spiritual and cultural attacks, focusing on virtues like leadership, prayer, sacrifice, and the importance of brotherhood. The series aims to equip men to defend their families, parishes, and communities by striving for holiness and engaging in evangelization.

Masculinity: Defining what it means to be a man and living for heroic virtue.

Brotherhood: The importance of male friendship, accountability, and a “band of brothers” for support in the spiritual journey.

Leadership: The call for men to be spiritual leaders in their homes, parishes, and communities.

Fatherhood: The essential role of fathers in raising children in the faith and providing for their families.

Family: The mission of the family as a “domestic church” and a place of holiness.

Life: Respect for life from conception to natural death, and the mission of a Catholic man as a pro-life advocate.

Prayer: The necessity of a deep and consistent prayer life, including personal prayer and sacramental life.

Suffering: Understanding and embracing suffering in a Christ-like way and using it for spiritual growth.

Sacramental Life: The importance of the sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation, for a man’s spiritual strength.

Spiritual Warfare: The reality of spiritual combat and the tools available to men to fight against evil.

Evangelization: The mission to share the Gospel with others and be a witness for Christ in the world.

The Cornerstone: Jesus Christ as the foundation of a man’s life and the source of true strength and purpose.

Inspired by the Apostolic Exhortation for Catholic men written by Bishop Olmsted of Phoenix, the Knights of Columbus produced a video series which seeks to answer the question of what it means to be a man and how to live as a man in today’s world.
